J. Ronald Smith

1983 would be a monumental year when J. Ronald Smith, a Seattle area based American ambient electronic recording artist, was introduced to the nationally syndicated radio program, Hearts of Space, created by Stephen Hill. Smith was awe-inspired by music composers such as Micheal Stearns, Brian Eno, Steve Roach and the late Evangelos Papathanassiou of Vangelis. Hill’s early broadcasts of these electronic music pioneers instilled a passion within Smith and opened a window of possibilities for him in this new ambient genre of music. In 2021, Smith founded Terminus Void to share this passion that has been 40 years in the making.

In 2023, J. Ronald Smith signed with the prestigious Groove Unlimited label in The Netherlands which released the third studio album, Apeiron (2023) and later the same year won the Schallwelle Award in Germany for Best New International Artist. Some of the past recipients of this highly prized and coveted award include such some of the most well known and respected electronic artists in the world, including, Jean-Micheal Jarr, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and Klaus Schulze.

From Terminus Void’s debut album, Interstellar, to the latest on-label studio release, Apeiron, on Groove Unlimited, Smith‘s music enjoys decisive reviews and a worldwide listening audience. His music has been reviewed by the highly respected music critics Bert Strolenberg, Sylvain Lupari, Peter Thelen and Paul Rijkens and have appeared in such magazines as Expose’ and Europe’s iO Pages Magazine.

On air, smith’s music has been featured on acclaimed programs such as Hearts of Space with Stephen Hill, Ambient Zone, Stars End with Chuck van Zyl, Night Tides with Renee Blanche, Last Frontier Radio and many more.

J. Ronald Smith is currently working on his next studio album for release in the second half of 2024.
